HORIZON LIMS in Clinical, Drugs of Abuse and Pain Management Laboratories

HORIZON® is an enterprise-wide LIS application for managing the analytical and administrative work required to process clinical, drugs of abuse, pain management, forensic toxicology and related bioanalytical test specimens.
HORIZON is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant and supports HL7 interfacing, including bidirectional interfaces to clinical analyzers and full integration with medical/third-party billing and insurance reporting systems (for HCFA, now CMS -- the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). The customizable billing system interface exchanges two types of HL7 messages: Patient Administration (ADT), which includes patient demographics and patient insurance coverage; and Financial Transaction (DFT), which includes billing and CPT codes. HORIZON also assures the privacy and security of individually identifiable health information, consistent with requirements of HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
HORIZON completely automates the scheduling and tracking of samples, collection of results from instruments, validity retest workflow, preparation of final client reports, report delivery, and generation of invoices. HORIZON was designed to streamline the operations of laboratories performing very high volume (thousands per day) and fast turnaround testing (under twenty-four hours) under the most stringent analytical, chain of custody, and quality control requirements—such as those specified by the FDA, CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, formerly NIDA), CAP (College of American Pathologists), DOT (Department of Transportation) and other regulators in the life sciences industry.

"HORIZON LIMS manages our entire forensic drug testing operation, from accessioning through final reporting, statistical reporting, and invoicing. We are now able to automate so many things that our previous LIMS was unable to handle, in a fully regulatory-compliant environment. All of our GC/MS instrumentation is bi-directionally interfaced with HORIZON, and all of our reports, including the scanned custody forms, are automatically generated and transmitted by fax, web portal, or hardcopy."
